Headquarters: 1005 W Burnside, Portland, OR, 97209, USA
Year Founded: 1971 CEO:  Walter Powell
What We Say: Powell's Books is a chain of bookstores in the Portland area. Powell's City of Books claims to be the largest independent new and used bookstore in the world. Their website was established in 1994, before Amazon, believe it or not. Powell's has an amazing selection of books and Susan Sontag called it "the best bookstore in the English-speaking world." Not too shabby.

Worth Knowing

Shipping Shipping is FAST and well-packaged. Free on qualified orders over $50. Delivery in domestic USA is usually between 1 and 3 days.
Guarantee If you're not satisfied, return the book within 14 days to receive credit.
Useful Services Links to "host" sites such as The Atlantic Monthly and Salon.com provide "smart features" according to Forbes Best of the Web — Spring 2002.
Deals & Discounts www.powells.com/salebooks
Affiliate Program "In return for every purchase instigated by your links, you'll earn 7.5% of the purchase price."
Pros Sell your used books to Powell's at the stores or online! Enter the book information and Powell's will bid. Accept their price and receive virtual credit for future purchases.
Cons Bargains are not so easy to find. You have to compete with in-store customers for the books on the shelves, which apparently does present a bit of an issue.
